Singing and Dancing with the Chantillys

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

What a busy year it’s been so far! I’m rehearsing with former Taffeta co-stars in preparation for my upcoming show, The Chantillys. We’re rehesarsing 6 days a week, and I have to admit, my back is starting to feel the pain from all the dancing! Throw in the singing on top of that, and my lung capacity is increasing exponentially!!

I’ve also been busy doing vocal sessions around town. I recently worked with Chantillys musical director Paul Taylor, and television composer Dick DeBenedictis, who scored groovy TV shows from the 70s like Matlock, Columbo, Perry Mason, and Hawaii Five-O.

Most recently, I did a session with composer Brian Woodbury where I recorded lead vocals as surfer chick Marina in his original show Killa Vanilla.

The Taffetas – Recommended by the LA Times

Friday, August 18th, 2006

The Los Angeles Times gives a thumbs up “recommended” review to The Taffetas.

“Kathi Funston gives enthusiastic Peggy straight-faced humor and potent chops…When the charming stars…tackle their vocals and director-choreographer Noel Britton’s frisky moves in crisp harmony, the limits of the chiffon-thin concept dissolve.”

Surf’s up, dude! I’m performing in a FREE reading of a cool new original musical Killa Vanilla by Brian Woodbury, Elma Mayer, and Joe Moe. Killa Vanilla is an exotic, character-driven show featuring Polynesian rhythms, surf beats, and a pop-musical theater score.

Please Call Me Stanley. No, Don’t.

I’m on stage. And I get to be a crazy person with multiple personalities. Actually, I just play four different characters in a zany collection of shorts by writer/director Robert Leach. “Please Call Me Stanley (And Other Tales…)” opens on Thursday, April 6th at The Next Stage Theatre in Hollywood. The show runs every Thursday night in April at 8pm @ The TreStage, 1523 N. La Brea, 2nd Floor, Hollywood, CA 90028. Tickets are $15 at the door.
